Tips for Efficient Image Management on Promodata

·

Promodata gives you access to over 600,000 promotional product images via API, a fantastic resource to boost the efficiency of your promo distributor business platforms. However, managing all these images can get tricky and potentially costly if not done right. Here’s how you can streamline your image management and save on IT costs:

1. Unique Filenames

  • Avoid Redundant Downloads: Each image in Promodata has a unique filename that stays the same. Once you’ve downloaded an image, you don’t need to download it again in future updates. Make sure your system checks for these existing images to avoid unnecessary downloads.

2. Take Advantage of Time Stamps

  • Spot New Images Easily: Every image file comes with a timestamp, making it easy to identify and download only the new images added within a specific period (like the last 7 days). This way, you’re only downloading what you actually need, which helps reduce data usage and storage needs.

3. Choose the Right Image Size

Optimise Based on Your Needs: Promodata offers four different image sizes:

  • Original: Maximum length of 2000px.
    Large: 1200px.
    Medium: 600px.
    Small: 300px.

Depending on your platform’s requirements, you might not need the largest file size, which can help you save on storage and bandwidth.

4. Consider Linking Instead of Downloading

  • Skip the Download Altogether: As a Promodata subscriber, you can link directly to the images stored on our servers using the provided URLs. There’s no need to keep a copy of the images on your end. We maintain the entire collection, including images for old or discontinued products, so you don’t have to worry about broken links.

5. Adopt Best Practices to Cut Costs

  • Streamline Your System: Fine-tuning how your system handles images can make everything run more smoothly. Avoid redundant file storage and minimise unnecessary data transfers. Less storage and reduced bandwidth usage mean direct savings for you.

By following these tips, you’ll keep your system running smoothly, cut unnecessary expenses, and ensure your platform always has the latest image assets.
